About Protect

How does Protect work?

Our software, Discover, monitors over half a trillion digital artefacts revealed by hacking communities and also the wider web. Protect is linked to Discover and does a specific job.

When you register with Protect you'll enter your personal email address. On a daily basis this is matched against any instances of your email address found within Discover. The results of those scans are then delivered within Protect.

If your email address is found, you'll receive a notification email so you can visit Protect where you'll find easy to follow suggested remedial action. You are free to implement what action you choose.

How is Protect different?

The systems and technologies we’ve built keep Protect at the forefront of the industry, which in turn help you to be on the front foot in mitigating your own risk.

Is my data safe?

Yes. You are only asked to input your email address, which we then use to scan the internet for your data. If you wish to stop the scanning at any time, you simply have to remove your email address. Historic alerts are available for you to view.

We implement the very latest security and privacy protocols to ensure our database is as robust as it can be. Furthermore, we will never sell to, or share your data with, any third party.

How much does Protect cost?

Protect is available to individuals if their employer has registered as a Protect Business Customer. It is up to your employer as to how they make Protect available to its employees.

When you then register to use Protect you will not need to enter any payment details.

Registering for Protect

How do I register for Protect?

Protect is exclusively available to individuals if their employer is a Protect Business Customer and makes Protect available to its employees.

What information do I need to provide when I register?

Very little. As Protect is focused on your personal information, you’ll need to enter the personal email address that you want to be included in our daily scans.

This email will then be validated where you will have to show that you control the email inbox by confirming receipt and clicking on a validation link.

Can I save multiple personal email addresses to be included in Protect scans?

No. Currently Protect will scan for a single email address that you have saved within your Protect account dashboard.

What if my employer isn’t currently signed up as a Business Customer?

As Protect is currently only available as part of an organisations’ Employee Benefits offering, you won’t be able to register for an individual account if your employer has not subscribed to Protect. 

We’d love to have your employer on board, so please share information about Protect with the relevant person(s) in your organisation - this might be your line manager, HR department or Employee Benefits team.

How to use Protect

How am I notified by Protect if my data has been found in a data leak?

When you register and confirm the email address provided is yours, you will then be notified by email when your email is found in any scans.

When am I notified by Protect if my data has been found in a data leak?

Protect continually scans the internet.

If your personal information is found you will receive a notification usually within minutes of its discovery. This will be sent as an email from alerts@discover-protect.com

What do I do if Protect notifies me that my data has been found?

Simply log in to your Protect account where you will be able to see:

  1. What personal data has been found.
  2. What remedial action you may wish to take, provided in easy to follow steps.

Protect doesn’t implement any remedial measures on your behalf. It is down to your discretion what action you take.

What do I do if I need additional help?

We have made Protect very easy to use. The suggestions are presented in simple steps. However, some problems may require additional professional help. We suggest you take your device to a trusted computer support team and show them your Protect alerts. They can then guide you through them and assist with mitigation.

Does my employer get access to my information within Protect?

No. We take your privacy extremely seriously. 

Nobody else, including your employer, will see your personal details, any details of where your data has been found or whether you took any action.

How do I access Protect? Is Protect an app?

Protect is only accessed by using your web browser, which can be done on any device - mobile, tablet, laptop or PC. You will need stable broadband or 4G/5G internet connection.

Protect is not available as an app that you download to your mobile device. This means you do not need to save anything on your device to use Protect, and helps maintain the security and privacy of your data within Protect itself.
